followed that up
with a IHSA

The 2010 team

Coach Parks

first day of
practice the
coaches asked
everyone if they
wanted to be
distance runners
or
sprinters...only
three of us
(Parks, brother,
and
one other)
agreed to try
distance. We were
lined up for an
800m time trial.
My brother and I

Katie Conway -
Assistant Coach |
7th year
coaching (2nd
year at
Palatine)
BA: Elementary
Education, Lewis
University ('04)
MA: School
Guidance
Counseling,
Lewis University
('07)
Coach Conway
joins our cross
country staff
for her first
year after
serving as an
assistant in
track
(sprints/hurdles/relays)
last fall.
She came to
Palatine in the
fall of 2011 as
a guidance
counselor,
bringing with
her a wealth of
track & field
experience, both
as an athlete
and coach.
Prior to coming
to Palatine,
Coach Conway had
coaching stints
at her alma
mater Lewis
University as a
graduate
assistant
(2005-2007), an
assistant and
eventual head
girls track &
field coach at
Marian Central
Catholic HS
(2008-2009), and
served as an
assistant for
both boys and
girls track in
2011at Woodstock
HS.
As an athlete,
Coach Conway was
a NCAA Division
II National
Qualifier in the
4 x 100m and 4 x
400m relays at
Lewis
University,
earning
All-American
status for a 5th
place finish as
a member of the
4 x 100m relay
at the 2003 NCAA
Division II
National
Championships.
She was 9-time
All-GLVC and was
a 5-time
conference
champion.
She ranks in the
top 10 all-time
performers at
Lewis in six
events.
Coach Conway
attended Marian
Central Catholic
HS in Woodstock.
There she was a
12x IHSA state
meet qualifier,
a 3x state
medalist
(placing 3rd and
5th in the 100m
and 200m in
1999), and is
the school
record holder
for 200m.
She is a member
of Marian
Central Catholic
Hall of Fame.
Coach Conway is
very passionate
about the sport
of track & field
and has been a
tremendous
addition to our
staff.
Like many
athletes she
participated in
many other
sports before
discovering her
abilities and
love for the
sport of track &
field.
Conway says, "I
joined track my
freshman year of
high school
because when I
played softball
in middle school
my coaches told
me to “just get
to first”
because I was
fast enough to
steal the rest
of the bases.
I
developed a
respect for the
sport instantly.
It
brought out
competiveness in
me I hadn’t yet
discovered.
I find
track and field
to be athletics
at its rawest
form.
Times,
distances, and
heights are
clear-cut and
the competition
is against your
own personal
marks." |
