The PHS choral program is under the direction of Mr. Steve Sivak & the curriculum is comprised of 3 choral levels: Mixed Chorus: An entry-level chorus open to students in grade levels 9, 10, 11, and 12 with no/limited choral experience, and students with no high school choral experience (grade level 9). Students are taught the basic fundamentals of tone production, part-singing, and music theory. They receive the foundation necessary to progress to more advanced groupsWomen's Chorale: Sopranos and altos who have completed Mixed Chorus and/or meet minimum first-year objectives set by the department. Students perform advanced literature and receive training designed to further musicianship, encouraging a higher level of choral singing. (grade levels 10, 11, 12). Concert Choir: Students who have successfully mastered objectives associated w/fundamental choral classes as set forth by the director, may be considered for enrollment at this level. Membership in this highly selective group must also be based on the maintenance of proper choral balance. Special attention is given to artistic performances, individual growth, and group dynamics. A variety of advanced literature is studied and the highest degree of excellence in all aspects of choral singing is expected.
