Video Editing Resources and Links
PHS maintains an up to date technology base in both software
and hardware.
However in the Video and Video editing fields many different
technologies must be dealt with.
This page will serve as a resource for both Teachers and
Students . Below are some quick facts:
Format Conversions
1. VHS tapes can be copied into CD and DVD formats.
2. Hi-8 and newer tape formats can be copied to CD or
DVD
3. Mini-DVD's can not be handled by school equipment.
4. Fully digital cameras with hard drive storage must be
converted by the owner.
Teachers are aware and students should also realize that the Technology
Department will not do your
video project for you. Homework is of course the Students responsibility. We
will assist and guide you
as much as we can.
Video Editing at home
Video Editing at home can save you a lot of time. If your camera came with
editing software
which can produce a DVD please take advantage of it.
Cameras that record directly to a mini-DVD will need to be processed by
you and turned into full size playable DVD's.
Cameras that record directly to a hard drive will need to be processed by you at
home and turned
into full size playable DVD's.
Cameras that record to mini tapes will need to be converted to a CD or DVD
Video Editing at school
Our main video editing program is Windows Movie Maker by Microsoft -
This program is installed on
most of the schools computers and is available for free download from the
Microsoft website.
We also have 25 computers in the Media Center which have Nero
editing software installed.
If you choose to bring your camera to school - video can usually be edited or
displayed by you directly from
the camera. Please supply your own interface cords.
Playing video in the class room
In most cases the the classroom computer or DVD player will play and display
your DVD though the rooms over head projector.
Video can usually be played directly from the camera and displayed through
the overhead projector
Please supply your own interface cord.
