Cross-Curricular Lab
Guidelines and Procedures

General Comments

  1. Ask your students to arrive in the lab before the bell rings and stay in the lab for the entire period.  Taking a class of students through the hallways or Media Center is diruptive.
  2. Labs are for use by classes.  They are not a "drop-in" facility for students; there is an area in the Media Center for "drop-in" computer use.
  3. In most labs, there are:
    bullet32 student workstations
    bullet2 printers
    bullet1 scanner
    bullet1 visualizer
bullet1 teacher workstation connected to a video projector
    bullet30 student desks
  4. Do no move the computers or monitors from their positions on the desk; this can cause the disconnection and excessive wear and tear of cables, connectors, and other equipment.
  5. Report any problems to the Technology Staff.

Before Using the Lab

  1. Learn how to use the software you intend to use with your class.
  2. Look over lab guidelines and procedures.  Please ask the Technology Staff if something is unclear.
  3. Get department chair approval for lessons involving Internet use.
  4. Sign up for lab times using the Lab Request Form.
    1. Check the Cross-Curricular Lab Schedule for currently available lab times.
    2. The availability of open time slots is subject to reservations currently awaiting approval.
    3. Reservations of five or more consecutive school days must be approved by Bob Schuetz, technology coordinator.
    4. Please keep multiple day and multiple period requests reasonable.
  5. If you need to cancel your lab reservation, please notify the Technology Staff immediately, either via the Lab Request Form , e-mail, or phone (x 1761).
  6. Remind students to bring any necessary supplies, such as textbooks, disks, or pictures for scanning.

Beginning of Period

  1. Assign seating (i.e. number in grade book is the assigned workstation number).
  2. Check the general condition of lab.
  3. Report any technology problems to a technology staff member.

During the Period

  1. No food or drinks are allowed in the lab.
  2. Only Media or Technology Staff should attempt to resolve technology issues, such as printer paper jams.

End of Period

  1. Close the software that is being used and logout of Windows.
  2. Users should shut down computers at the end of the school day.
  3. Check to see that the room is in order (i.e. papers are recycled and garbage is thrown away, keyboards and mice are placed in their drawers, keyboard drawers and chairs are pushed in, desks and chairs are returned to their original positions).
  4. Do not turn off the printers or monitors.
