English 102 - Mythology Web Quest

To perform this Web Quest, you must go to http://www.phs.d211.org/english/quickcmClick on the link entitled "Greek Mythology."  For each question, click on the link to search for the answer.  Most answers require you to read or "scavenge" for the information on the web page to which you are directed.  

Objectives:

What are the three main sources for the oldest of Greek myths?

 

 

Who were the parents of Dionysus?  Of what is he the god?

 

 

Hestia is the only Olympian god or goddess not described in our book.  Of what is she the goddess?

 

 

What event caused the Trojan war?

 

 

Explain how Perseus is related to Heracles.

 

 

List three of Heracles' twelve labors.  Summarize one of them.

 

 

What was the mission of Jason and the Argonauts?  Why did they undertake this mission?

 

 

Who were the Sirens?  Describe what they looked like and why people should be scared of them.

 

 

Describe what a centaur looks like.

 

 

What does a Sphinx look like?

 

 

What is a nymph?  Name at least three different types.

 

 

What is a hydra?  Why did Hercules have such a hard time killing it as one of his twelve labors?
