If seeing is believing, then
Barrington sure converted a lot of believers at the Mid-Suburban League
West Division meet in Palatine on Tuesday night.
The Fillies won 13 events and finished second in five
to roll to MSL West title with 196.5 points.
Palatine took second with 167
points, while Fremd (72.5) and Conant (62) finished third and fourth.
Schaumburg (46) and Hoffman Estates (40) rounded out the field.
Were building, said Barrington coach Jody Gitelis
of her teams strong showing. We have a lot of goals. Its another
level and another hurdle.
Molly Glantz led the Fillies,
winning and setting a school record in the 100-high hurdles (14.9). The
sophomore also won the 300 low hurdles (45.4) and 800 (2:19). Finally
she combined with Dipti Karmarkar, Elizabeth Mielke, and Jenny Schnack
to win the 800 medley (1:49.4).
The Fillies Samantha Learch won
and set a school record in the 200 (25.0), and she took first in the 400
(58.4). The sophomore combined with Val Taylor, Jenny Schnack, and
Amanda Schnack to win the 400 relay (49.1). And she finished her night
by combining with Taylor, Amanda Schnack, and Jayne Jaderholm to win the
1,600 (4:02.4). We starting to see it, and
believe, and go after it, Learch said. We came here wanting to compete
and doing the best we can. I think everybody did that today.
Amanda Schnack also won the 100 (12.4) and combined
with her sister Jenny, Karmarkar, and Jaderholm to win the 800 relay
(1:46.7). Taylor won the long jump with
season-best 17-6, and Karmarkar captured the triple jump (34-2) to lead
the Fillies in the field events.
Leslie Rowe took first in the
3,200 (11:56.2) to complete a commanding performance for the Fillies.
Im beaming inside, Gitelis said. Im so proud of
the girls. Not just the effort, but as people.
Palatine went 1-2 in both the shot
put and discus. Jenise Sterling won the shot put (39-5) and took second
in the discus (121-10), while teammates Ginny McFabe took first in the
discus (124-7) and Martha Shepard took second in the shot put (38-3)
Jocelyn Kuksa took first in the pole vault (10-0) and
second in the 300 low hurdles (47.3) for the Pirates.
Amy Laskowske took first in the 1,600 (5:09), while
Tory Wright, Michelle Brunk, Jenni Abram, and Colleen Standridge
combined to win the 3,200 relay (9:49.5) for the Pirates.
We had to learn a few things
tonight, said Palatine coach Steve Currins whose team had 5
second-place medals. Barrington is incredible they did a good job.
