Carolyn Currins Scanlon

    A 1996 graduate, Carolyn’s accomplishments in cross country and track are legendary throughout the state.  This elite athlete was a four time state qualifier in cross country leading her team to four Mid-Suburban League, four Regional and four Sectional Championships, as well as two State Championships.    Her 1995 team is still considered the best in Illinois history.  She was named to the All-State team in 1992 and 1994.

     In track, Carolyn was a three time All-State performer in the 1600 meters.  She also anchored the 3200 meter relay team to State Championships in 1993 and 1995, a 2nd place finish in 1994 and 4th place in 1996.  She is the only Palatine athlete to earn a State medal on a Relay team all four years of high school.  Carolyn earned fourteen State medals in her career - the most by any athlete in school history.  A great competitor and leader, she finished her distinguished career by being named the Female Athlete of the year in 1996.

      Carolyn continued her athletic career at the University of Missouri, lettering in cross country and track, and helped her team qualify for the N.C.A.A. Championships.   She graduated with a degree in Math Education and is currently

Joe Petricca

Joe became the head football coach at Palatine High School in 1984.  During his thirteen year career, his teams compiled a 103-40 record, winning the mid Suburban League North Championship seven times.  His teams also qualified for the State Playoffs eleven straight times, reaching the Semi-Finals in 1989 and 1996 and the Finals in 1994.  Joe’s values and standard’s of excellence had a tremendous influence on Illinois High School football.  An effective teacher, communicator and motivator, Joe inspired his players to reach their potential on the field and in the classroom.  He taught them to “do the right thing” and to be positive role models in the community.  Joe was recognized many times for his contribution.  In 1988, he received the B’nai B’rith Inspiration to Youth Award.  In 1989 and 1996, the University of Notre Dame Club of Chicago honored him with the Frank Leahy Prep Coach of year Award, that same year he was honored by Northwest Community Hospital as the Sportsman of the Year.  In 1995 he received the Santa Cruz Award for leadership from his alma mater, Notre Dame High School.  In 1996, he was honored as Prep Coach of the Year by the Chicago Bears.  Joe was inducted onto the Illinois Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1999.

Joe also served as the Girls Bowling Coach leading them to a State Championship in 1992.  As an assistant in Girls Track and Field, he helped them to third place State Finishes in 2001 and 2002..

Joe’s former players and colleagues will remember him for his loyalty, integrity and his willingness to go the “extra mile”.

Don Crandall

Don filled many rolls in his thirty-two year career in District 211.  He taught math and served as an assistant coach in football and basketball for thirteen years.  He was very instrumental in leading our basketball team to the “Sweet Sixteen” in 1981 and 1982.  In 1985 he began his “new career” as an athletic administrator serving as the Athletic Director at Conant High School for three years and Palatine High School for four years.  In 1992, Don became the Director of Student Activities for District 211, a position he held for twelve years.  As Director, he supervised the district’s five building athletic program involving approximately 9,000 athletes and 500 coaches.  He developed the district’s Drug/Alcohol Education Program, the College-Bound Student-Athlete Handbook and the Aquatics Procedure Handbook.  Throughout his career, his coaches and fellow administrators confidently looked to him for leadership and support.  Don’s commitment and contributions to athletics have been recognized at the state and national level.  In 1998, he received the Illinois State Board of Education “Those Who Excel” award.  In 2004, he was named the Athletic Administrator of the Year, and in 2007, he was inducted into the Illinois Athletic Director’s Association Hall of Fame.

Don continues to support District 211 athletics as a fan and as a volunteer at the Palatine Relays.

Stan Anderson

As the son of former Palatine High School Athletic Director, Chic Anderson, Stan was exposed to athletics at an early age.  He learned first hand the value of athletics and the importance of having a strong work ethic.  His competitiveness and leadership made him an excellent role model for other student athletes.  Excelling in both soccer and baseball, Stan led the area in shutouts and goals against average as the varsity goalkeeper.  He also was the leading home run hitter his senior year and was selected to compete in a high school home run hitting contest.  He was named the Athlete of the Year in 1985.

As a four year letter winner in soccer at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Stan held many national records for shutouts in a single season, consecutive shutouts and goals against average.  He had a high of fourteen shutouts in 1989.  He finished his brilliant career by participating in the national College All-Star Game.

After playing one year of professional soccer, Stan embarked on an extremely successful coaching career.  He spent ten years at the University Wisconsin-Milwaukee helping them to a 136-63-17 record and five straight N.C.A.A. Tournament appearances.  He has been recognized as one of the top assistant coaches in the nation on several occasions.

In 2005, he became the Associate Head Coach at Marquette University and is helping to make them a national power house.  In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Stan has worked to create charitable organizations to provide monies for the Red Cross
