The Different Shots
|
 |
Badminton is a sport of
technique
and power.
Drop Shot
 | This shot is suppose to go over the net like a hairpin. It is used
to up at the net and it is used to make players run to get it. |
Drives
 | This shot is used to aim and power hit at someone. It is very low to
the net and it is hit out in front of the body. It is very important
to keep your racket up because this shot is very quick and precise.
|
Long Drops
 | These shots are used from the back of the court. When hitting this
shot catch the bird high before it starts to fall down. Hit out and
down to make the shot fall right over the net. The goal with this shot
is to make it just land right over the net. However, it should be low
to the net so the opponent can't smash it on you. Make sure to snap
your wrist when executing this shot. |
Clears
 | These shots are used to move your opponent back so you can return to
your home position, which is in the middle of the court. When hitting
this shot reach up and hit out on the shuttle. Make sure to catch it
high before it starts to fall. You want to extend your elbow up. Don't
drop your elbow. The shot, if executed right, should land at the back of
the court. Also, if done right, you should hear a pop come off your
racket. |
Smashes
 | This shot is used to hit the bird down fast and hard. It's a way to
end the point quickly. A smash is hit high in the air and you snap
your wrist as soon as your racket makes contact with the bird. Aim for
the sides of the court or at your opponent. |
Serves
 | The serve is used to start the game and to
score points. You should
make contact with the bird below your waist. The serve should be nice
and low to the net on a short serve. For a long serve, it should be far
and high. The serve is the most important shot in the game. |
