Tryouts for Orchesis are usually held towards the beginning of
May. Miss Corbett will give out
information concerning tryouts and clinics when it comes closer to the
date. You can hear this information
either through the morning announcements or from flyers hung up around PHS
and all of the local Junior High Schools for incoming freshmen. Tryouts take place throughout a whole
week. There will be 2-3 clinics over
3 days in which you will learn a pre-choreographed tryout routine which will
be performed in front of judges at the day of tryouts. You must also make a dance no longer than 1
minute, of your own choreography, to perform to the judges. This dance is
individual, it may not be used by any other person trying out, and it may not
be done in a group. There will be a
first cut that takes place on the day pervious to the final cut. At both
cuts, you are to perform the group pre-choreographed dance as well as your
individual solo. During the final cut,
you will be judged by various faculty members and graduating senior
members. The judges will score you
on technique, stage presence, creativity, energy, and dance
coordination. Tryout participants
should have basic training and preparation in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop and
modern. No more than 18 girls will be
chosen to represent the following year’s Senior Orchesis team. Good luck and we sincerely hope you give it
a try =)
