Palatine High School's NEWEST fine arts periodical.
In an age when the body comes before the spirit, matter is over mind, and sports are considered above the arts, an angry shark lurks under the waters.
Suddenly, the shark attacks!
We as the editorial staff of Face believe the fine arts should get just a little more attention than they do right now. That's why we've committed ourselves to the production of an outstanding fine arts showcase. This is Face.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Out of the ashes a brand new baby mag has risen. Face is the brainchild of quite a few dreamers, both students and teachers alike, who have desired for a better relationship with the arts. They are Palatine High School's fine arts magazine. On steroids.
You see, not only will there be a published book at the end of the year, but a CD to go with it. The book showcases the various writings and drawings of various students, while the CD houses the original songs or oral pieces created by other various students, not unlike yourself.
How do we decide what gets put in the final draft and eventual book/CD? Well, it's really quite simple. You submit your work from various drop-off points around the school OR you simply show your face during one of the infamous Face slams held every alternate Thursday. Get some food, share the love, and show off your lovely ________. That's all there is to it, as long as it's original and created by you.
Every other Thursday, there's a Face editorial board meeting in room 236 where we decide on what's in and what's out. You could hop in and take a peek if you like, we're really quite harmless things and enjoy a good distraction. On the alternate Thursdays is Writers' Club in the same room. So really, Face and Writers' Club are nearly one and the same. They just have different goals. Face → book & CD. Writers' Club → Writers' Day.
Well, it would be great to have your stuff actually in print, right? And in circulation as well? But no, we're not that cheap.
Actually, we're looking into some monetary rewards for those who actually place in our contest. If we believe your work is good enough, it will move on to the next level where it will be judged to see whether you'll get something out of it! Now, these prizes are still circulating around the brains of the editors, but right now we're looking at cash rewards or coupons to local businesses.
Even if you don't get any monetary gains, you could reap some extra credit from your classes. Talk to your teachers to see if they offer it.
There are three categories to which you submit your work: art, writing, or song.
You may submit multiple entries in different categories.
Sadly, anything considered inappropriate for school will not be accepted. Though we are a fine arts group, and believe in freedom of expression, we are still tied to the school and must abide by the school's rules. If you are unsure of where your content falls, feel free to ask us and we will kindly tell you.
If you have any questions whatsoever, direct them to Ms. Appino or Ms. Bartlett, the two co-sponsors of Face. Or, if you would like to have a chat with Mr. Leathem, the Writers' Club sponsor, you could do that too.
